Commissions
Working closely with each client to capture not only a likeness, but the character, presence and spirit of their animal. Deeply inspired by a lifelong connection with animals and the countryside, my work celebrates the powerful bond we share with them and the important role they play in our lives.
A commissioned portrait is a meaningful investment, whether for your own home or as a thoughtful and personal gift. I also create memorial paintings and approach these with particular care, sensitivity and empathy, understanding how important it is to honour an animal’s memory in a respectful and lasting way.
All portraits are painted from photographs, meaning your animal does not need to sit or stand for a painting. This allows me to work with familiar, natural expressions and ensures the process is calm and considered from start to finish.
The Process
Initial consultation
Once your commission is booked, we begin with a discussion around style, composition and overall feel. We will talk through themes, background colours and any framing considerations, with tones often chosen to complement your home interior.
Reference photographs
You will provide a selection of photographs of your animal, including the exact image you would like me to work from. I paint directly from this chosen photograph, so it is important that the pose, angle and expression reflect how you wish your animal to be portrayed.
Digital mock-up
Before painting begins, I create a digital mock-up using your chosen reference image and background colour. This allows you to visualise the final composition and ensures everything is approved before work starts.
Painting stage
I then begin the painting, working carefully and intuitively in oils, allowing the piece to develop layer by layer while maintaining accuracy and character.
Final review
Once the painting is complete, I will share the finished piece with you prior to varnishing. At this stage, you are welcome to provide any final notes or minor adjustments.
Varnishing & drying
After approval, the painting is varnished and left to dry fully, ensuring a durable and professional finish.
Packaging & delivery
Once dry, your artwork is carefully packaged and shipped insured and fully tracked, ready to be enjoyed in its new home.
Pricing & Sizes
Commission pricing varies depending on size and complexity. A full pricing guide and available sizes can be found below, or discussed directly if you are unsure which option would be best for your space.
If you would like guidance on sizing or framing, I am always happy to advise.
