About

Liv Samengo-Turner is a fine artist based in West Oxfordshire, England, working primarily in oils. Deeply inspired by a lifelong connection with animals, her work seeks to capture not only a likeness, but the individual spirit, character and quiet presence of each subject. Through paint and colour, Liv explores the powerful bond between humans and animals, a relationship that is often wordless, enduring and profoundly meaningful. Her paintings act as personal heirlooms; visual tributes that honour the animals who shape our lives and homes.

Working in a deft, impressionistic style that balances realism with expressive mark-making, Liv creates portraits that feel both accurate and alive. Her practice is rooted in the British countryside, drawing inspiration from nature in all its minute details, from the soft shift of light to the texture of a coat and the subtle expressions that reveal an animal’s true character.

I grew up surrounded by creativity. My father was a highly talented artist and sculptor, and from an early age I was fortunate to have an inspiring creative role model at home. Alongside this, I was guided by several exceptional female art teachers who nurtured my abilities with compassion, encouragement and challenge. I studied oil painting throughout my school years and went on to complete a Diploma in Art & Design in London.

Although art has always been part of my life, it was in 2019 that I returned fully to painting, beginning with landscapes and portraits of my own animals, as well as those of friends and family. From there, my practice naturally evolved into commissioned animal portraiture, work that feels both deeply personal and quietly collaborative.

I live in the countryside with my two much-loved whippets and my beautiful grey gelding, all of whom appear from time to time in my work and on my social channels. Animals are not only my subject, but an integral part of my daily life.

I work exclusively with professional-grade materials, chosen for their longevity and depth of colour. When you commission a piece with me, you can trust that it is created with care, integrity and respect, for the animal, the process and the story you wish to preserve.
